The Kentucky Arabian & Half Arabian Breeders Association (KAHABA) has successfully promoted Arabian and Half-Arabian horses in Kentucky at all levels. A contributor to that is the Kentucky Breeders Incentive Program (KBIF). KBIF was established in 2005, the Kentucky Breeders’ Incentive Fund ensures the strength and growth of the horse industry in Kentucky. The fund is financed through a 6 percent sales tax paid for breeding a mare to a stallion in the state of Kentucky.

This initiative has encouraged participation and showcased the breed’s versatility to horse enthusiasts statewide, the county fair and local Open All Breed Horse Shows have witnessed increased participation from Arabian horse owners. This has lead to added classes and higher attendance. This surge in interest has contributed to rising membership numbers, nominated stallions, and eligible horses competing for points and recognition. KAHABA’s efforts have tailored the program to attract Kentucky-born Arabian and Half-Arabian foals, as well as stallions from other areas.

The Production Division for Kentucky-foaled Arabian and Half-Arabians offers a nice payout in Production classes that are funded by enrollment fees. KAHABA members have showcased Arabian and Half-Arabian horses at prominent events like Breyerfest, Equine Affair, and the National 4H Judging Contest. Starting in 2025 any horse that qualifies as a Kentucky bred Arabian may earn points a KBIF payout from enrolling and reporting results from any rated AHA show or distance ride no matter the location of the show or distance ride. As KAHABA members, we’re encouraged by the KBIF program’s impact, ensuring the Arabian horse will continue to thrive in Kentucky.
